As the sun rose in the morning sky on June 7, 2019, Martha Ida Moody Spurlock rose to begin a new life within the gates of Heaven. The only daughter of Charley Alcy and Edith Evendale (nee O’Neal) Moody, Mrs. Spurlock was born February 26, 1923, in Hunt County.  She married Byron J. Spurlock, Jr., on August 8, 1941, in Jacobia.  In 1981, after retiring as a seamstress with Haggar Company of Greenville, Mrs. Spurlock and her husband purchased their own semi-truck.  She obtained her commercial driver’s license, and they spent the remaining of their working years touring the country together.  For a short time, they owned and managed a small café and country store in Point.  During their 63 years together they resided in Cash, as well as Greenville and Lone Oak.

Mrs. Spurlock was a graduate of Greenville High School and a member of Highland Terrace Baptist Church.  She was a cook, seamstress, truck driver, farmer, and hostess.  Most importantly, she was a wife, mother, and grandmother who lovingly led her family with a gentle but firm hand.

The matriarch of her family, Mrs. Spurlock is survived by her children Randy Spurlock and wife Linda of Garland; Matthew Spurlock and wife Denise of Hamilton, Ohio; Pamela Bunch and husband Keith of Mesquite; grandchildren Sherry Martin and husband Todd; Christina Johnson and husband Roger; Jason Spurlock; Chad Spurlock; Ashley Macken and husband Paul; Michelle Shafer and husband Jeff; John Spurlock and wife Jordan; Shawn Martinez and wife Patricia; Deanna Bodine and husband Kris; Bradley Bunch and wife Erin; and Brandon Bunch; as well as 17 great-grandchildren with two more on the way.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, daughter Barbara Birdwell, brothers Harold Moody, Alfred Moody, T. W. Moody, and Floyd Earl Moody.

Services will be held at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home Chapel in Greenville on Tuesday, June 11, at 2:00 p.m., with Reverend Wayne Tumey officiating.  Pallbearers will be Shawn Martinez, John Spurlock, Chad Spurlock, Bradley Bunch, Aron Martin, Nathan Martin, Austin Johnson, and Jason Spurlock (honorary). The family will receive visitors at 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the funeral service.
