Nita Marie Griffin Doan (Granny Pig), 90, of Merit, passed away on Friday, May 28, 2021, at her home in Merit. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M., Thursday, June 3, 2021, at Higher Trails Cowboy Church of Celeste with Rev. Bill Shaddox, Rev. Deanna Lowe and Rev. Randy Bird officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 2, 2021, at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Interment will be in Merit Cemetery.
Granny Pig was born on February 28, 1931, in Waldron, Arkansas, Scott County, to Charles E. Griffin and Lola Ferguson Griffin. She married Earnest E. Doan on July 7, 1951, in Greenville, Texas. She retired as Merit Postmaster after 27 years of service. She was a member of Floyd Methodist Church.
She is survived by her sons, Monty Doan and wife, Sheila, Buck McDonald and wife, Vicke, Jim Doan and wife, Shelley; sisters, Glenda Sue Rector and husband, Roger, and Linda Lou Ivy and husband, Charles; brother, Jack Griffin; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Ricky Doan; daughter, Brenda Wigington; sister, Jean Spradlin; and brother, Charles Griffin.
Pallbearers are Trey Hurst, Tyler Hurst, Andrew Limmer, Zachary Taylor, Dakota Taylor and Wyatt Wigington.
Honorary pallbearers are Dylan Doan, Weston Wigington and Lucas McIver.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or American Cancer Association.
