Yesterday the 12th of April 2019 a tractor trailer took a right on Moulton from Park St. In doing so it took out a cement barrier placed there by the city of Greenville no more than a month ago.
The route known as Business 69 driving through Greenville has proven to be a tough nut to crack. City officials have been notified about the issue several times during City Council meetings and phone calls. Several attempts at combating the problem led to more signage, barriers, and widening of streets. This has not however solved the issue.
The problem stems from the shortcut indicated on GPS maps where downtown Greenville seems to be the shortest route from I-30 or 69 to 380. The narrow streets, tight turns, and lack of curbs and sidewalks don’t allow for larger vehicles to navigate easily. In their futile attempts they end up in ditches or lawns, wreaking havoc along the way.
Homeowners along the route and several side streets have indicated property damage, felled trees and deep track marks in their yard. Not to be understated, some don’t even feel safe allowing children to play in front yards.
