Roger Dan ”Danny” Sims, 74, of Greenville, met his Lord face to face, Sunday, July 9, 2023, in Plano. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M., Friday, July 14, 2023, at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. David Upchurch officiating. Graveside services will follow at 2:00 P.M., at Macon Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Texas with Rev. Pepper Puryear officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, July 13, 2023, from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home.
Danny was born July 19, 1948, in Mount Vernon, Texas to Carl Sims and Agnes Rogers Sims. He married Brenda Lawrence in Commerce, Texas on February 3, 1969. For 54 years, Danny and Brenda showed the meaning of true, selfless love, devotion, loyalty, and commitment to each other every single day. He retired from Raytheon/E-Systems as an Information System Program Manager. He was a former member of First Baptist Church of Mount Vernon, where he served as a Deacon, and he and Brenda were current members of Van Sickle Baptist Church. Danny enjoyed spending time with his family on their Sims Adventures; hunting with his sons, traveling, riding ATV’s in the mountains of Colorado with his people, especially Terry and Martha and bass fishing with his best friend, David Cartwright.
Danny, or better yet, ”Fafa” as he is lovingly named by his family, is survived by his true love and devoted wife, Brenda Sims; his favorite sons and daughters-in-law, Steven and Therese Sims, Brian and Brittany Sims, and Bill David and Jessica Sims; his treasured grandchildren, Kalee and Levi Laningham, Brant and Kelsey Sims, Todd and Brennan Sims, Macy Sims and fiancé, Troy Ayres, McKenna Sims, Jaylee Sims, Hannah Sims, Kyson Wade, Dustin Cheatham and Matthew Gremillion; the great-grandchildren that stole the whole show, Lakelyn, Chesney Grace, and Owen ”Otis” Sims, Landyn Seymour, Logan Seymour, Alayna and Luke Laningham, Willow Wilson, Kingston Ayres and Talon Ayres; sister-in-law, Jeanne Lawrence; brother-in-law, David Lawrence and sister-in-law, Lisa; nephews and nieces, Lanny and Angie Lawrence, Matt and Resia Lawrence, Ben and Cecily Lawrence, Sam Lawrence, Emily Lawrence, Greg Tinsley and wife, Sandi, Todd Tinsley and wife, Sonya, Angi Gilmore and husband, David; and last but not least, his boys, Baxter and Tucker.
Waiting on him in Heaven, were his parents, Carl and Agnes; sister, Margaret Tinsley and brother-in-law, Don; brother-in-law, Lanford Lawrence; and his bonus son, JMC.
Pallbearers are Steven Sims, Brian Sims, Bill David Sims, Brant Sims, Todd Sims and Levi Laningham.
Honorary pallbearers are Landyn Seymour, Logan Seymour, Kyson Wade, Luke Laningham, Owen Sims, Phil Prather, Todd Prather, David Cartwright and Tommy Rigsby.
So Fafa, ”what’s the plan, what do we need to do today- where are we going?” Wait for us, and we will all be there for our next Sims Adventure!
