Walter Edsel Oyler, 77, of Greenville passed away February 22, 2021 at Hunt Regional Medical Center in Greenville. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, February 25th at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Roy Youngblood officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery in Cooper. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 2:00 – 4:00 PM Wednesday.
Born September 27, 1943 in Paris, Texas, Walter was the son of Dave Daniel Oyler and Stella Mae (Lane) Oyler. On August 7, 1965 in Mesquite, Texas, he married Sue Whorley . He retired from State Farm after 40 years, was the head mechanic and research developer of SunRay DX race team, and raced Corvettes all over the world. From 1969 – 1980, he founded and worked in the vocational automotive technology department at Grayson County College. He was a member of First Baptist church of Greenville. He belonged to the Lions Club, Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce of McKinney and Greenville.
He is survived by his wife, Sue Oyler of Greenville; son, Dan Oyler of Greenville; daughters, Jennifer Oyler and Jennifer Williams of Georgia; sister, Gaye Elizabeth Patrick of Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dave Oyler, brother-in-law Pat Patrick, brother in law Virvin Whaley, brother in law Phillip Pittman and nephew Mark Perkins.
Pallbearers will be Dennis Baker, Walter Morgan, John Grizzle, Dennis Benson, Don Grisham and rick Grisham.
