Dr. Claude C. Waters, 82, of Greenville, passed away on April 17, 2021 in Greenville. A funeral service will be 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Yost officiating. Visitation will be 9:00 A.M. until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be at Forest Park Cemetery.

Dr. Waters was born November 2, 1938 in Greenville, Texas to Claude John Waters and Ora Elizabeth Henderson Waters. He grew up in Greenville and graduated Greenville High School in 1956. He studied at East Texas State University and received a BS in Science in 1960. Following his graduation, he taught High School Science for 1 year in Clarksville, then moved to College Station to attend Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine. He graduated from Texas A&M in 1964. After a 3 year rigorous schedule, his class graduated 1 year early causing there to be 2 1964 Veterinary School graduating classes.

In 1966, Claude entered the United States Air Force as a Lieutenant and was appointed to the position of Base Veterinarian at Dover, AFB in Dover, Delaware. In addition, he was responsible for inspecting all food and the safety of meals served on the Dover base as well as other bases, some of which were overseas.

In 1968, Claude and Luanne moved their family home to Greenville where he began a long-standing private practice treating large and small animals. He narrowed his practice to small animals only around 1976. He retired in 2013 as his health began to fail. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church his whole life, attending Bible class before becoming too ill. He was a very sweet and kind person that will be greatly missed.

Claude is survived by his sons, Dale Waters and wife, Pam of Greenville and David Waters and wife, Whitney of Sisterdale; daughter, Cheryl Perkins and husband, Terry of College Station; sister, Elizabeth Hodge and husband, Doyle of West Monroe, Louisiana; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Earnest Waters.

Pallbearers will be Terry Perkins, Cody Waters, Chad Waters, Hunter Waters, Kaden Waters and David Rogers.

We are requesting that you limit the size of the gathering due to concerns regarding the current health crisis.  Please feel free to come and pay your respects but practice social distancing.  Masks are required in the funeral home.
