Billy Joe Spitler, 89, of Commerce, Texas, passed away at his home on Thursday, August 26, 2021.  He was born on January 15, 1932, in Dallas, Texas, the son of Alvin Spitler and Pauline Jackson Spitler

Billy attended Commerce High School, graduating with the class of 1949.  He entered the United States Army, serving in the Korean War.  Following his service, he worked as an auto mechanic for the next 30 years.  He married Frances Kelley on December 10, 1953, in Rockwall, Texas.  Following her death, he married Betty Spitler.  They enjoyed many years together before her death in 2020.  Bill was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Commerce.  During his spare time and in his retirement, Bill enjoyed woodworking.

Bill is survived by his daughter, Carol Stroup and husband, James; grandchildren, James Christopher Stroup, Jeffrey Leon Stroup, Justin Andrew Stroup and Jessica Leanne Bolton as well as 10 great-grandchildren.

Bill was preceded in death by his first wife, Frances Spitler, and his second wife, Betty Spitler; his parents Alvin and Pauline Spitler, his daughter, Mary Frances Spitler; his granddaughter, Jamie Frances Stroup and a great-grandson, Michael Francis Bolton.

Serving as pallbearers for Bill are James Christopher Stroup, Jeffrey Leon Stroup, Justin Andrew Stroup, Joshua Bolton, and Gavin Christopher Stroup.
