Bobby Don Ayers, 87, of Caddo Mills, TX went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, April 13, 2021. A service honoring Bobby and celebrating his life we be held at First Baptist Church in Caddo Mills, at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, April 17, 2021 with his brother-in-law, the Rev. Dr. James E. Majors presiding. Visitation will be 9:30 A.M. until service time at the church. Burial will be in Caddo Mills I.O.O.F Cemetery. Coker-Mathews Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
He was born on March 26, 1934 in Clinton, TX. to Lawrence C. and Lounita Ayers. He graduated from Caddo Mills High School in 1951 and began his long and successful career with Texas Power & Light Co. in 1953. He married the love of his life, Leta Marie Majors on July 3, 1953. Bobby and Leta resided in Caddo Mills until 1965 when they moved to Rockwall where he managed the T P & L office. In 1969 he joined the Engineering and Right-of-Way Dept. of T P & L in the Dallas office and retired from the company as a Sr. Right-of-Way Agent in 1992. They returned to their hometown of Caddo Mills in 1981, where they built a home on their ranch and resided until his graduation from this earth to be with his Lord. Bobby was a deacon and member of First Baptist Church of Caddo Mills. He greatly loved the church where he had attended since 1946, except for the 16 years he lived in Rockwall. While living in Rockwall, he was ordained as a deacon of First Baptist, Rockwall.
In addition to his service to his church, Bobby served his community; he served on the Board of Directors of both the Farm Bureau of Hunt County and the Cash Special Utility District. He joined the Hunt County Farm Bureau Board of Directors in 1992 and served until his retirement. He served as Vice President of the Board and chaired the Policy Development Committee. He was a regular attendee at the Farm Bureau state conventions and a volunteer FFA and the Hunt County Fair. He was recognized for his service in 2019 when he received the distinguished Pioneer Award from the Texas State Farm Bureau, recognizing his thirty years of outstanding service and leadership. When announcing the award, at the Bureaus 86th Annual Meeting in San Antonio, the State Board official stated, “They give everything to their farm, ranch, communities and consumers. For that, we recognize them for what they are: pioneers in Texas agriculture.” He served on the Board of Directors for the Cash Special Utility District for 25 years.
Throughout his life, in addition to his work at Texas Power & Light, he pursued his love of farming and ranching. After retiring from the company, he devoted full time to his cattle-calf and hay bailing business on the Ayers Ranch near Caddo Mills.
The most important aspects of Bobby’s life were his deep devotion to his Lord Jesus Christ and his love and responsibility to his family. His best days were spending time with his family and especially with his four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. And they all loved coming to see Granddaddy and ride with him on his John Deere tractor, feeding the cows, riding the 4-wheeler, fishing in the pond, or being cuddled in his arms. Bobby’s love and respect for his wife was a beautiful example of a Christian marriage for his children and grandchildren. He lived a life based on faith, honesty, integrity, and hard work. He leaves a legacy of a Christian life well lived to his family and community.
Bobby is survived by his wife of sixty-seven years, Leta M. Ayers; two children, Robert D. Ayers, Sr. and wife Gerri of Houston, TX, and Diane Ayers Lindsey and Husband, David of Caddo Mills; Grandchildren Allisyn Ayers Decatur and husband Mark of Houston, TX; Robert Dean Ayers, Jr. and wife, Katie of Jackson, WY; Desirae Lindsey Cole and husband, Chase of Caddo Mills, and Derek Lindsey and wife Chelsea of Krugerville, TX; Great-grandchildren Hudson Dean, Emma Kathryn, and Grace Elizabeth Decatur, Elizabeth “Ellie” Caroline and Samuel Dean Ayers, Hogan Don and Rinoa Noelle Cole, and Grayson Lane Lindsey. Also survived by Gavin Matthew Green and nieces Stephanie Ayers Alexander and Shanna Ayers Humphrey, formerly of Caddo Mills, and Heather Ayers Prather of Greenville.
Bobby was preceded in death by his parents Lawrence C. and Lounita Ayers, and his brother Lawrence C. Ayers, Jr.
Serving as pallbearers: Robert Ayers, Howard Coe, Chase Cole, Mark Decatur, Derek Lindsey, and Ron Olson. Honorary pallbearers are: Albert Walker, Reid Bentley, and the members of the diaconate of First Baptist Church of Caddo Mills.
