Jessie Mae West, 85, passed away on Thursday, May 23, 2019 in Paris, Texas.  She was born on March 15, 1934 in Cleburne, Texas to Hiram and Ruby Moore.  A visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Commerce Funeral Home.  A committal service will take place at Dallas Ft. Worth National Cemetery on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at 10:00 a.m.

Jessie graduated from Cleburne High School.  She was raised in Cleburne by an Aunt after her mother died in an automobile accident and her father was disabled.  At 13 years old, Jessie accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior.  Throughout her life, her faith is what carried her through many difficult trials.  Following high school, Jessie joined the United States Army, serving in Japan.  Her military service was a high honor in her life.  Following her military service, Jessie attended East Texas State Teacher’s College on the G.I. Bill.  There she earned her Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral degrees.  She touched many lives as a special education teacher, bringing happiness to each one in a special way.

On September 1, 1973, Jessie married the love of her life, Arthur West.  They were faithful members of First Baptist Church in Commerce for many years.  They served in many capacities together until his death in 1996. Jessie’s faith is what sustained her for the remainder of her life.  One particular experience was especially meaningful.  She participated in “Walk to Emmaus”, which is 3 days of prayer, meditation, study, singing and praising God.  This experience was life changing.  Jessie lived believing Philippians 4:13 which says, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” She will be missed by her two close friends, Jo Ann Parkman and Marguerite Trull, who selflessly cared for Jessie, as well as by many others who called her friend.

Services entrusted to Commerce Funeral Home.
