Mary Ann Kanaman, 92, of Campbell, Texas, passed away on November 23, 2023, at Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas. A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 16, at 2:00 PM at Lynch Funeral Service in Greenville, Texas. Mary was born on January 18, 1931, in Eustace, Texas, to Jim and Dessie Starr. She spent her childhood in the Eustace area and attended school at Watkins Elementary and High School in Canton, Texas. She was of the Methodist faith.

She married Jim Ashley in 1948 and moved to Wills Point, Texas. They had three children: Malia, Marla, and Wesley. During this time she worked at Malouf’s Factory and was co-owner of Ashley’s Bar-B-Que which was “not famous, just good”.

In 1976, she married Roger Kanaman and moved to Campbell, Texas. She spent these years as a homemaker and enjoyed traveling and gardening.

Mary is preceded in death by her husband, R.A. Kanaman; daughter, Malia Roberts; sister, Bernice Bodin; brothers: Billy Starr, and Jimmy (Tiny) Starr; sons-in-law: Mark Kitchens, and Rick Roberts.

Mary is survived by daughter, Marla Kitchens of Campbell; son, Wesley Ashley and wife DeAnn of Sulphur Springs; sisters: Joyce Tucker of Mesquite, and Shirley Rush of Wills Point; brother, Gary Starr and wife Mandy of Mount Vernon; grandchildren: Doug Roberts and wife Cassie, Ryan Roberts and wife Lindsay, Shane Ashley and wife Paige, Britney Macchiaverna and husband Paul, Kaitlyn Rigdon and husband Jordan, and Micah Kitchens; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
