Travis Washington, Sr., 85, of Greenville, Texas passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 15, 2021.
Travis is survived by his wife, Gwyndolyn Washington; his daughter, Shawn Travette Washington of New Braunfels, TX; his son, Travis Washington, Jr. and his wife Aynur of Plano, TX; his granddaughter, Cherokee Rayne Washington of Austin, TX; his grandsons, Garvin Posey and Berkin Parlakay; Godson, Chris Rhodes; and Goddaughter, Leslie Sanders Day. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Tessa Washington.
Travis was born September 6, 1936 to Dewitt Washington and L.E. Deeds in Washington on the Brazos, in Washington County Texas. He graduated from Jack Yates High School in 1955. After graduating high school, he immediately joined the United States Air Force. During his active duty, Travis served in Security Services and received the U.S. Air Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters denoting additional honors bestowed upon him for his service to his country. While in the Air Force, he met his wife Gwyndolyn Hunter, who also served in the Air Force, while they were both assigned to Keesler Air Force Base in Mississippi.
Upon retiring after 21 years of service, he began his second career at L-3 Harris, previously E-Systems in Greenville, TX where he worked as an engineer, until his second retirement in 1997. Travis was a member of Bee Hive Masonic Lodge No. 105 where he served as Chaplain.
Travis, affectionately known as “PawPa”, touched many people’s lives each in a very unique way. He was a humble and generous individual who loved his family and friends. His stories and adventures are too great for this space; his life too big for these words.

There will be a memorial service at 10:00 am on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at Lynch Funeral Service Chapel in Greenville. Mr. Washington will be laid to rest at a later date at the National Cemetery in Arlington, TX. Full obituary forthcoming.
