Virgel “Pa” Ray Hurley, 88, of Quinlan went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, July 21, 2019 at his residence. Funeral services celebrating Pa’s life will be held at 12:00 Noon on Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at Ingram Funeral Home with Pastor Rodney Williams officiating. Interment will be immediately following at IOOF Cemetery in Quinlan. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service.
Serving as Pallbearers: Jason Frazier, Stevie Frazier, Kevin Palin, Steven Stone, Garrett Davis, Jason Buhrmann, Taner Renfro and Eli Attaway.
Virgel was born on April 17, 1931 in Reilly Springs. He is the son of the late Horace Lee and Leo Gertrude Hicks Hurley. He was raised in Reilly Springs. He was employed at Austin Steel in Dallas for 44 years as a steelworker and he retired as a foreman in 1993. Virgel married the former Miss Aletta Fay Shipp in 1961. They purchased a farm in Quinlan in 1965 where he continued farm work until he was called to his Heavenly home. He was a charter member of Christ Memorial Baptist Church in Quinlan where he served as a Deacon for many years and presently was serving as Chairman of Deacons at First Baptist Church of Quinlan. He was also a member of the Gideon Organization handing Bibles out in various local and area schools. He was also preceded in death by his father Horace L. Hurley, mother Leo Hicks Seymore, step-father Bill Seymore, brothers H.L. Hurley, Leroy Phillips, L.T. Hurley, grandson Charles Buhrmann and infant son Steven Hurley. Virgel was a loving husband, father, grandpa, great-grandpa and mostly known as “Pa” to many.
He is loved and will be missed by his loving wife Aletta; sons Tim Frazier & wife Glenda of Quinlan, Terry Hurley & wife Linda of Quinlan; daughters Margaret Tipping of Greenville, Lisa Vincent & husband Dan of Carrollton, Cathy Stone & husband Kenny of Quinlan; brothers Rudolph Hurley, R.B. Hurley; sisters Horace Lee Jackson, Mary Arnold all of the Dallas area; 13 grandchildren Christina Wells, Charles Buhrmann, Amanda Attaway, Jason Frazier, Kevin Palin, Stephen Frazier, Danielle Vincent, Paige Vincent, Steven Stone, Kristel Cameron, Kellie Hood, Marcie Sloan & William Sloan; 17 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
