Commerce, Texas- Team Impact connects children battling serious or chronic illness with colligate teams throughout the nation. Lifelong bonds and life-changing outcomes are often the results. The children, through the Team Impact organization, become an “official” member of the team that attends practice sessions, games, team dinners, and other events.

Last month the Lions Basketball team held a special signing event for nine-year-old Emerson DePaz of Greenville at the Commerce Fieldhouse. Emmerson is battling Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis, a type of cancer usually found in children and young adults.

The signing ceremony took place on February 6th at the field house where the team assembled for a photo of its newest member. Head Coach Jaret Von Rosenberg said, “Emmerson committed a couple of months ago and has been attending practices. He is able to “hang out” and shoot hoops with the team.”
